Port Antonio and Portland Parish

February 21, we arrived in Port Antonio after a calm day at sea. We motored through the beautiful entrance channel and docked at the Errol Flynn Marina. After 2 months at anchor we were attached to a dock for a few days. It was great to just walk off the boat onto shore, no dinghy required!

The view from our cockpit in Port Antonio
We explored the town and found the lighthouse that we passed on our way in
We looked at many old buildings and churches that date back to slavery times
Port Antonio

We took a ride along the east coast of the island
The scenery was amazing! We stopped to look across at a castle!
We hiked to Reach Falls and looked down on the crystal clear water
We enjoyed the cool water on a hot day
Reach Falls
We went through the falls to a secret cave
On the way from the falls we were curious about the piles of wood. Our driver, Tristen explained that they were creating coal for the “jerk” bar b ques all over the island. The wood burns very slowly and after days and days the coal is done.
Goats everywhere!
…of every size and color!
We stopped by Boston Town to have some of their famous Boston Jerk for lunch
After lunch we enjoyed a dip in the “Blue Lagoon” from the Brooke Shields movie fame. The color was amazing and was made from the mixture of fresh water and salt water.
We had a great day playing tourists!
